The South west and west- These directions should have heavy furniture as weight in these sectors is regarded to be of immense advantage. Building extra floors, overhead tanks etc should be positioned here for the weight factor.
Study area– The study and the meditation room should fall in the west for the interesting reason that one should face the east while studying or meditating. Also, the direction of light and knowledge is the east. There should be maximum possible open space in front of the person studying or meditation so as to enable light and knowledge to cover him completely. Placing the study in the west puts the open central space directly to the east.
Materials to be used– With regard to the materials used in Vastu construction, there is a traditional preference for natural materials, wood being by far the favourite. However, materials in themselves do not greatly affect Vastu structures. The rules are simple. Use new material as far as possible. New construction needs new materials. Recycled materials are acceptable for repair work. Vastu carefully differentiates between what is antique and what is old. Antique is acceptable but old is not.
