Vastu Tips For Basement

Due to scarcity of space and growing population, it has become almost inevitable to use as much of available space as possible to the maximum benefit. Thus, the concept of making rooms and living spaces in the basement came into limelight.  Although Vastu does not approve of making use of vacant space under the house for living purposes, but still some points should be considered while making use of the basement and doing construction work here.

Vastu tips for basement

Here’s a list of some important Vastu points to be considered while getting construction work done in the basement area:

A basement should be built in the north and east portion of the house. More vacant space should be kept in the north and the east than in the west and south.

A basement should never be built under an entire house; it should be made only under a part of it. it is best to make basements in the north and the east direction.

A basement should never have residential area, in other words, it is not suitable for people to dwell here.

Basements can be used for office or for making a store here.

Basement interiors should follow Vastu principles strictly.

The northern and eastern portions of the basement should be kept more vacant.

Heavy furniture and equipment should be placed in the south and west portions of the basement.

The shape of the basement should not be irregular or odd as it causes loss in business, health problems and even blocks the flow of energy for the owner.

Stick to rectangle or square shapes for the basement.

Basement can be used for storage tank of water, however, it should be placed int he north-east, north-west and at eastern or northern angles. if these directions are not used for placement of the water tank, it would cause adverse affects on the health of the owner or the occupant of the house.

Make sure to keep the north-east portion of the basement light. Heavy and large objects should not be placed in this portion of the basement.

The north-west of the basement should be lighter than the south-east.

South, south-west and west portions of the basement should be used for keeping heavy materials

Life teaches us many lessons every day. It makes us boulder, stronger and a better human being and prepares us to face newer challenges in life. Each one of us feels that our problems are the biggest, but this does not stand true.  Vastu Shastra in India and abroad is one such age old science which teaches us the way of life and how to lead it in a systematic manner. Vastu Shastra has its origin from Indian Puranas and Upanishads and it deals with the architectural and structural aspect of a premise in coordination and correlation with the fine elements of nature and the ten directions of the universe. Vastu doctrines state that the earth being round, whatever is emitted out from within us comes back to us. Hence we should always give out positive energy by thinking and behaving positively so that we are enabled to create a positive surrounding within and around us. If we are surrounded by negative vibrations, we can never prosper and succeed in life. Hence, Vastu helps us create a positive and healthy environment to live in.

Vastu For Construction

When we talk about Vastu for construction, it should be kept in mind to begin construction only during special periods according to the Hindu calendar like Phalgun (February 14 to March 13), Vaishaka (April 14 to May 13), Sharavan (July 14 to August 13). These dates are considered to be productive for the welfare of the family. The rest of the year is not well regarded at all. Many dire warnings are issued to dissuade people from beginning construction then.

Additionally, all construction ventures should be commenced only when the moon is waxing and not waning. The symbolism here is that during this time things are growing towards fullness and completion; after the full moon, it’s a; downhill, so to speak. Days 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 10, 11 and 13 of the waxing moon (in other words, days since the new moon) are considered extremely fruitful.

Each day of the week also has certain qualities that impact the appropriateness of beginning construction then.

  • Monday begets happiness and prosperity if work is begun then
  • Tuesday is inappropriate and ill fortune will befall on the owner
  • Wednesday leads to material gains and joy.
  • Thursday ensures long life and happiness with children that make you proud
  • Friday brings peace of mind and progress in one’s work
  • Saturday is popular in the state of Rajasthan as a day to begin work
  • Sunday, like Tuesday, is inappropriate, and ill fortune will befall you

As additional point to keep in mind is that blue moon months- those with two full moons- are to be avoided as times in which to begin construction.

The griha-pravesh or entry into the new house has a similar set of auspicious times. A cardinal rule is that one should never have a house warming, lock up the new house, then go back to the old house, and slowly move in stages, as is convenient. Either begin inhabiting the new house immediately or defer the ceremony.

The griha-pravesh is divided into three parts- for new houses, for re-entering your house after long travels or pilgrinages and for entering your house after a major renovation. The best months to move into a new house are:

March (January 14 to February 13), Phalgun (February 14 to March 13), Vaishaka (April 14 to May 13) and Jyeshtna (May 14 to June 13). However, the month of Kartik (October 14 to November 13) can be resorted if the need in pressing.

Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday are ruled out as inappropriate times for entry into the new house. Days 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 10, 11, 13 and 15 of the waxing moon are beneficial. It is best to enter the house in daylight.

To move back into a renovated house, a slightly different set of rules apply. The appropriate months are expanded now in this order of preference:

Karthik (October14 to November 13), Shravan (14th July to 13th August), Magh (14th January to 13th February), Phalgun (14th February to 13th March), Vaishaka (April 14th to May 13th) and Jyeshtha (May14th to June 13th)

Sunday and Tuesdays are to be avoided as days to enter the house. The dates of the waxing moon cycle remain the same.

Best Vastu Tips For The Guest Room

Vastu Shastra even points out the rules to follow in concern with the direction for the position and placement of the guest room and the reason behind it. According to ancient Indian texts, the guest is a representative of God. Hence, we should take care of the total well-being of the guest and the placement of the guest room should be such that the host benefits from the guest and the latter too remains healthy.

Guest Rooms
We Indians are a hospitable lot and consider the arrival of a guest auspicious for the household. Vastu experts, however, suggest that while the guest does command total respect, care and attention, at the end of the day, the guest is a guest and should be treated accordingly. If we go through the Vastu Shastra rule, we will find that this ancient text has laid down some rules and regulations that are to be followed in the location and other details of the guest room which will ensure that both you and your guest enjoy each other’s company and that the guest will return with sweet memories of his/her happy stay with your family.

Top 8 Vastu tips for the guest room are as follows:
1.    The best room to be allocated as a guest room should be the north-west room of the house. This area represents the Air element, and does not provide stability in the structure. This will ensure that the guest does not become a permanent member in the family.
2.    Under no circumstances should the guest bedroom be positioned in the south-west portion of the house.
3.    Other areas such as the south-east and north-east are also not auspicious as far as the guest room is considered. The guest should not remain in the family and become a member of the host’s family.
4.    The guest room should have more openings which should be towards the north and east wall.
5.    The bed in the guest room should be aligned with the south wall of the room
6.    The guest room should be painted in white, violet, grey or light blue shades.
7.    Make sure that any belongings or articles used by the host are not kept in the guest room by any chance
8.    Neither the master bedroom nor the kitchen should be visible from the guest room at any cost

Vastu Shastra For Construction And Redevelopment Of Buildings

Every city needs to be redeveloped wherein their old and dilapidated properties need to be reconstructed for proper and optimum utilization by the city dwellers. This proves beneficial not only to the residents but also to the developers of these projects. In order to bring about harmony, prosperity and peace to the developers as well as for the residents of such projects, Vastu Shastra can be implemented which would bring about harmony and positive energy for one and all involved.

Construction

Some important points to be kept in mind relating to Vastu Shastra for construction and redevelopment of buildings:

1. Date of commencement of construction- The date on which construction work should be commenced plays a very important role in determining harmony na dsuccess of any construction project, hence this should be decided upon with great care and speculation. Vastu believes it is good to commence construction work on Monday, Wednesday,

Thursday and Friday, and it should be avoided on Sunday and Tuesday. Also, construction which is started during Shukla paksha is considered auspicious while that started in Krishna paksha is not considered good from Vastu point of view.

2. Clearing and levelling of the land- Before beginning new construction even on redevelopment projects, the land should be cleared off all thorny plants and rocks and it should be levelled especially in the north-east. A proper flow of finance and uninterrupted construction activity is assured if the land is levelled well with certain portion of it left higher than the other areas.

3. Vastu puja (shanku sthapana)- The puja done for laying down the foundation stone which in turn converts energy and removed negative vibration from the plot of land is what we call Vastu puja. It is very important to conduct this puja so as to ensure any harm or obstacle to the construction activity.

4. Starting point of construction- The first foundation stone on the plot should be kept on the south-eastern side. Also, it should be noted that the construction work should never end on the southern portion of the plot or else it would bring in bad luck from all spheres.

5. For construction companies in the business of construction of roads and bridges- The negative location should be chosen and construction should be done towards a positive location or energy point. This will enable the project to be completed faster without any interruptions due to flow of finance.

6. Placement of the builder’s/contractor’s office- A temporary site office is always made by every builder or contractor at the construction site, this office should be at the proper location as per Vastu principles, including the seating arrangement of the contractor. This will enhance the energy level of the people working in that particular project. It is best to place the office in the south or west of the site. The owner should be made to sit facing the east while the rest of the staff should sit facing North.

Remember, following Vastu Shastra for construction and redevelopment of buildings would enable you to complete the construction work with ease, without any hassles and difficulties from any angle.

Expert Vastu Tips For House Construction

Vastu Shastra is a science relevant to construction of buildings. It is believed that following Vastu Shastra during and after construction work can even convert an inauspicious plot into an auspicious one, thereby making it favourable for human dwelling. Here are a few Vastu tips for house construction. These guidelines should be followed while getting a new house constructed.

Vastu tips before commencing construction work on the plot

To ensure a hassle free construction process, it is important to clear the entire plot off all thorny plants, stones and bushes before commencing construction work on it. Fillers should be used to cover the holes in the ground. It is equally essential to get trash removed from the construction site from time to time. There should not be any break in construction work for any reason. It s always more apt to get construction work done during the day time. Construction work for new home should not be carried out in the night.

Vastu Shastra For New House

Construction material to be used

For constructing your new house, always purchase new raw materials for the same. Old, used and second hand materials should not be used for constructing a new structure as they carry the negativity from previous owners. Avoid using wood obtained from thorny trees. For making doors and door frames, the same material should be used like for instance if the door is being made out of wood, the frame of the door too should be made out of the same wood.

Storage of materials

The southwest, south or west directions should be used for storing construction materials. This will ensure completion of construction work without interruption.

Excavation

Vastu suggests that the north east corner should be used to begin with the excavation of the land, thereby proceeding towards east, north and west directions.

Water Pump

North east, north or east directions should be used to place the water sources in the plot. These would suggest better flow of water and would bring about harmony for the owners.

Laying foundation

The south east corner should be chosen to begin with the construction work and to lay the foundation stone. It should then proceed towards Northwest. Alternatively, it can also start from southwest and proceed to southeast or begin from northwest and take it further to northeast.

Entrance door

The position of the entrance door should be in the north, northeast and east in case of east and north facing plots. For south facing plots, it should be southeast and south and for west facing plots, it should be west and northwest.

Remember to follow Vastu principles at every stage of construction, right from laying the foundation stone, preparing the structure, positioning of the different rooms to doing up the interiors which would include colour palette, furnishing and even displaying up of credentials and show pieces in different sections of the house. Vastu would not only ensure smooth completion of construction work but would also make sure that happiness, peace and harmony exists within the constructed structure which in turn would prove beneficial for its occupants in the long run.

Vastu Shastra While Constructing New House

Vastu lays down guidelines for every aspect while undergoing construction of a new house. This includes the shape of the plot as well as the shape of the structure which would be constructed on the selected plot. Vastu has an overwhelming preference for sites or plots which are either square or rectangular in shape, irrespective of the size. Most Vastu recommendations for altering a site are essentially ways of transforming the existing site of land to bring it closer to that ideal state of stability represented by the square and rectangular shapes. A square plot is considered the best, however, even rectangles are fine but they should be in the ratio of 1:2.

Vastu Shastra For New House

Vastu Shastra while constructing new house claims that any extensions to the intrinsic square shape are well regarded only in the sections north, east or northeast. These areas categorically respond to the neck and the face of the Vastu Purush and an increase in the face is always welcome. Any other projections beyond the confines of the rectangle are regarded as deforming the body of the Vastu purush.

Triangular and circular site shapes are regarded to be highly and inherently unstable because of their elemental association with fire and air. Five-cornered sites are regarded as being conducive to harsh-minded and vicious scheming.

The Gomukhi, or cow-faced site is considered auspicious by Vastu experts. In such sites, the front area is distinctly smaller than the rear. Roads on this site must run on the south or west sides only, or else problems would arise for other reasons and the benefits of the site would be lost.

The tiger-faced site or Vyagramukhi is the reverse of the cow-faced sites as their front area is broad and voracious, like the open jaws of the tiger, and the rear area is compact. This causes the owner to become unpleasant and rapacious.

Hexagons, octagons and irregular parallelograms are also undesirable shapes for construction of new house. All irregular and odd shapes need to be divided or modified so that they are more closely approximate to a square or a rectangle.

In case a site has an unwanted protrusion, it can be rectified by isolating the offending section with a compound wall or hedge. By doing so, you basically pretend that the protrusion is not a part of your site. You can either goal to make it a perfect square or a rectangle or a site with a desirable North-east spur.

Circular sites can be used in exceptional circumstances if there is a perfectly circular public building on it. To build a square or rectangular building on such a site is an open invitation to disaster. Many Vastu experts believe that even a circular building on such a site does not mitigate the inherent difficulties of such places. Vastu says a perfect circle is universally rejected as being inimical to prosperity and one’s social status. Similarly, a triangular shape is also not well regarded. Traditionally, would involve the owner in litigation with government and one’s plans to a frustrating impasse.

Adhere to the right shape of the site and the structure while constructing a new house so that it brings about success and prosperity for you and your family.
